EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: A statute for European cross-border associations and non-profit organisations

The resolution was adopted by the European Parliament on 17 February 2022

The European Parliament adopted a resolution to safeguard civil society and the freedom of association and recognise associations, non-profit organisations and public benefit across the Union. After providing background information on the situation of cross-border associations and non-profit’s situation in regards to the legal framework applicable to them, the resolution emphasises the gaps that necessitate an intervention at the EU level.

To do so, the European Parliament requests the Commission to submit:

  • A proposal for a Regulation establishing a statute for a European Association;
  • A proposal for a Directive on common minimum standards for non-profit organisations in the Union;

Including an annex with recommendations as to the content of the proposals requested.
