FRANCE: Right to protest under pressure – new report says

A new report by Amnesty International France warns that freedom of assembly has been threatened in the country since the introduction of the state of emergency:

  • 155 demonstrations were banned in 18 months
  • 639 individuals were prohibited to protests: 21 linked to demonstrations for COP21, 574 to the protests against the labour law
  • Over 1000 people injured in Paris during protests

The report also brings to attention the “disproportionate and arbitrary use of force by the police”, including against journalists and citizens filming the police operations during protests.
