In 2021, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU adopted the Regulation 2020/2092 . Simultaneously, Member States in the European Council reached a agreement on its implementation. Law Conditionality Regulation allows the Commission to suspend the disbursement of EU funds to Member States in cases of violations of the EU values.
As RECLAIM, we believe Rule of the final text of the Regulation and the political agreement attached to it present a number of limits that run the risk to water down the impact of the new mechanism to tackle democratic backsliding in the EU.
