BCSDN 2023 Regional Report: Monitoring matrix on enabling environment for civil society development: a complex reality for CSOs in the Western Balkans and Türkiye

Report published by the Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) on 06/12/2024 – accessible here.

The Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) launched the 10th Monitoring Matrix Regional Report, a synergised analysis of country reports from BCSDN members across Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Türkiye. Evaluating 22 standards across three core areas: Basic Freedoms, Financial Viability, and State-CSO Relations using the updated methodology, the report captures key developments, challenges, and trends shaping civic space in 2023.

The report highlights both the progress made across the region, demonstrating the resilience of civil society organisations (CSOs), and the setbacks to civic space. It also outlines key recommendations to create a more enabling environment for civil society.
