At the beginning of July 2025, the Palestine solidarity group Palestine Action was banned by the UK government under anti-terrorism laws, making membership of, or support for, the group a criminal offence. An initial appeal against the decision was rejected. By August, more than 700 people had been arrested for showing support for the group. In a protest in London on 7 September, almost 900 people were arrested for holding signs supporting the group.
On 30 July, the High Court allowed Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action, to bring a judicial review and challenge the ban, defending the group’s right to freedom of expression and the potential negative impact of the ban on political debate. The High Court also authorised the intervention of Liberty and Amnesty International UK in the hearing. This second hearing will take place in late November.
