Alerts Roundup #4
Welcome to the latest Civic Space Watch Alerts Roundup!
February has been a big month for our civic space monitoring. We launched our new website, introducing several new features, including a hub for protection resources and an interactive map. Developed through the MACS, Net4Defenders and PARATA projects, the site is now built to support a more active approach to civic space monitoring.
Last week, our partners in MACS also published new country reports, documenting the state of civic space in 2025 in Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania. The reports use a new monitoring methodology developed as part of the project and will form part of ECF’s Europe-wide Civic Space Report which will be published in May.
In this roundup, we focus on the pressure on civil society from the new Czech government and renewed concern over freedom of expression in Germany. Plus, we bring you the latest on the UK’s ban on Palestine Action, the use of excessive force in Portugal, and a campaign of harassment against French environmental groups.
