UK: Government now considers Palestine Action as a terrorist group

On 2 July 2025, the UK parliament voted to proscribe the Palestinian solidarity group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. It is now prosecutable under criminal law to support or be a member of the group. The decision came after actions at the end of June, in which activists from the group entered an airbase and painted over two Royal Air Force (RAF) planes. The group defended its actions, arguing that RAF vehicles leave from that same airbase for another one in Cyprus, where it serves as a support for military operations in Gaza. Human rights groups, such as Amnesty International, have criticised the UK government’s approach of unequally condemning the Israeli genocide of Palestinians and the painting of planes by activists. Palestine Action appealed to temporarily block the order; however, the appeal was rejected on 4 July. As such, as of 5 July, Palestine Action is considered a terrorist organisation in the UK, and to support it amounts to a crime.
