Looking Back at 2019: Year of Mass Protests Across Balkans

Balkan Insight proposes a review of the most important protests that took place in the Balkans in 2019. The issues people protested in public against ranged from corruption to authoritarianism, lack of women’s right and inaction on the environment.

In Croatia, for instance, sveral rallies throughout 2019 saw people demanding more rights for women and more action to tackle domestic violence. In Romania, on the day of the annversary of 2018 rallies against corruption people took the streets to demand once again more actions against corrupted politicians.
