The rise of a global climate movement has been accompanied by a crackdown on civic space for climate activists worldwide. This briefer, presented by ICNL and ECNL, lays out the measures used to target civil society actors working on climate justice. Many of these measures violate international and regional law and have increased as a result of the emergency responses from states amidst COVID-19. The suppression towards activists working on climate issues has taken many forms, including threats to their rights to assembly, association, participation and other types of harassment.
