HUNGARY: Organisers of Palestine solidarity protest face home raids
The police response to a peaceful anti-war and Palestine solidarity march held in Budapest on 21 March 2026 has raised concerns over the treatment of protesters and the use of criminal measures against them in Hungary. The demonstration was organised in opposition to the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the CPAC assembly in Budapest, a major gathering point for international far-right actors. The protest, which called for peace and expressed solidarity with Palestinians, was met with significant presence of police in riot gear. Six days later, police carried out home raids on two of the protest organisers. During the searches, police confiscated mobile phones and computers and questioned the activists on suspicion of “hooliganism”.
